Village of 100 people

Something to ponder:

This illustration comes from Dr Philip Harter of Stanford University’s School of Medicine which is now widely quoted:

If we could shrink the earth’s population to a village of precisely 100 people, with all the existing human ratios remaining the same, it would look something like the following:

There would be:

- 57 Asians, 21 Europeans

- 14 from the Western Hemisphere, both north and south;

- 8 would be Africans;

- 52 would be female, 48 male;

- 30 would be white, 70 would be non-white;

- 70 would be non-Christian, 30 Christian;

- 89 would be heterosexual, 11 homosexual;

- 6 people would possess 59 per cent of the entire world’s wealth and all six would be from the USA;

- 80 would live in substandard housing;

- 70 would be unable to read, 50 would suffer from malnutrition;

- one would be near death, one would be near birth;

- one (yes, only one) would have a college education; and

- one (yes, only one) would own a computer.

Now if this is the world now, what can we do to make it different? And we talk about the Jews and the Muslims and what have you's. Is it all really that important? God gave us brilliant minds but most of us do not make full use of it. If we are to see the human race evolve into higher beings, we need to evolve our minds first.

Dear Jimin,

firstly, how are you..? i really hope that things have been going your way and that you've been happy with the lifestyle that you have chosen since you left us all standing in the hole you blasted when you left the scene of photojournalism.

to say the least, i was saddened, disappointed and confused when i realised that the Malaysian photojournalist community has lost such an accomplished, passionate and respected photographer. I, as an aspiring photographer at the time that you told me you left, was devastated... okay.. Maybe a little exagerated.. but i'm sure you know that i was saddened bout it. but nevertheless i was happy that you had decided to take such a drastic change in your life path .. but
honestly,
Jimin....

I really hope that you will pick that camera up again sometime SOON and start blogging and posting up your phenomenal shots once again.. we shall celebrate with champagne, then.. when you go ahead and grace my life with your ever-so-inspiring shots... PLEASE.. pictures of Angel at a field or something! anything!
